Core Practices for Inner Freedom: Part 1

Facilitator: Angela Walkley

Compassionate or Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is more than an empathy technique. It is an orientation to all aspects of life that includes powerful principles and practices to increase our inner freedom.

Inner freedom is our ability to stay present, be creative, and respond consciously to life, no matter what the circumstances, guided by what matters to us most.

In this retreat, we will explore and experience 6 core practices for inner freedom, based on the work of NVC visionaries such as Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, the founder of NVC, and Miki Kashtan, co-founder of BayNVC.

These are practices that require no special equipment, vocabulary, dojos, gyms, or particular spiritual beliefs – only the spaces of your everyday relationships.

Core Practices

  1. Being present to difficult emotions

  2. Taking responsibility for the quality of our experience - our feelings and actions

  3. Integrating past pain and trauma

  4. Seeing everyone's innocence and humanity, no matter their actions

  5. Giving and acting only with full willingness, and without expectation

  6. Speaking and living our truth with strength and care for others
